Interview: Brydie Mack
We spoke to #faithfullgirl and film photographer, Brydie Mack also known as @wolfcubwolfcub about her path to becoming a professional photographer, where she draws inspiration from and the best piece of advice she has been given.
“Tell us a little about yourself”
I'm a Sydney-based photographer / cat Mum with a love for nostalgia, vintage cameras & a muse in the Sun.
“Where did you grow up and what do you love most about your home in Sydney?”
I grew up in Adelaide, which was a real bubble - especially when it came to the Fashion industry. So I moved to Sydney when I was 19 & instantly fell in love with the unspoiled beaches, the humid Summers & the fact that supermarkets stayed open passed 5pm.
“How did you get into photography and how many years have you been in the industry for?”
I started out as a Stylist. I studied a Bachelor of Design at uni & we had SO many assignments that required a photographer, with myself on the styling tools. I struggled to find a photographer who was both, aligned with my aesthetic & within my broke-uni-student budget. So I saved up to buy a Canon 7D & the love affair began.
“If you weren’t a photographer, what career path would you have taken? ”
An actress. I was tossing up between NIDA & Whitehouse as my university of choice. Who knows what my life would look like if I'd gone the NIDA route!
“What is the best advice you have received starting out, which you can pass on to aspiring photographers and creatives?”
I read a quote by Ira Glass which helped me through some of my most insecure times as an artist. It's a long one but it's worth it:
“What is your most loved travel destination and why?”
Santorini, because I felt like I was in Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants.
“Where do you see yourself in 10 years?”
3 dogs, 2 cats & a big home in Byron. Still learning, still travelling & fluent in French.
“Where/who do you draw inspiration from?”
Photographers from eras past, nature, animals, moments where beauty & freedom meet.
“You recently photographed our latest collection, Mémoire. What was your favourite style from this shoot? ”
I loved the Palma Mini Dress look in Carrie Floral.
