We spoke to #Faithfullgirl and photographer, Vivian Hoorn about what led her down the path of photography, why she fell in love with film and what inspired her to create her photography book titled ‘Capetown’.
"Hi! My name is Vivian Hoorn, 28 years old and living in Amsterdam together with my boyfriend Rien and cat Lucy."
"I started with modelling when I was younger. After I finished my styling school at the Artemis in Amsterdam I started with photography. Just for fun and I said to myself it was just a hobby. I shot a friend of mine in Cape Town for her portfolio, we did the styling and art direction together and just shot it in the streets of Cape Town. Those images where published on an online magazine and when I shared these images I received a lot of enthusiastic comments. That was the beginning, I did a photography course at the Fotovakschool as I just created everything based on what felt good so I wanted to gain more knowledge about the technic. The rest is all self-education with some YouTube videos and a lot of trying and creating!"
"Just my feelings. When I’m relaxed and creative I just create work what feels right for me. For art direction movies and magazines are my inspiration."
"You just need a few clicks for a photo. Not endless photos trying to create a ‘perfect’ one. I love the excitement of getting my film back of the developer and re-live the moments I captured."
"I have a big love for this place. My love for photography started there and my boyfriend Rien and I met in Cape Town. It is a magical place for me and I created a lot of work over there. So I wanted to make a book full of memories and the beauty of my favorite place in the world. Maybe I will make a book in the future with all my work but for so far I have nothing planned yet."
"Both. I love nature and explore the world, new places. I can see beauty in a lot of things. For someone else just ordinary is for me art. A muse can also be an animal for me or just a random person on the street that inspires me."
"Hopefully traveling soon and creating time to capture everything on film and create new prints."
