Night Palm: With Tiffany Howell
We spoke with Tiffany Howell, the co-founder, head of creative and principal designer of Night Palm, the boutique Los Angeles based interior design company who helped create our very first pop-up store in Los Angeles.
“Please introduce yourself: ”
Hi, I’m Tiffany Howell. I live in Los Angeles, California where I work as an interior designer.
“You are the co-founder, head of creative and principal designer of Night Palm, a successful Los Angeles based interior design company, tell us how you came into this industry and the type of work you specialize in: ”
My background is music video production, which led me to interior design. We do both commercial and high-end residential projects.
“How would you describe your design aesthetic and interior style? ”
I would describe my design aesthetic as both romantic and cinematic.
“What is the creative process that you undertake when working with a new client or space?”
We start with a sensory study to get to know all of our clients’ desires. It includes their favorite places to travel, favorite foods, favorite colors, favorite scents, etc. And we always create a soundtrack for the vibe we’re trying to bring to life.
“We recently had the pleasure of having you style our very first pop-up store in Los Angeles, tell us about this experience and the look and feel you wanted to emulate: ”
It was so fun working with the Faithfull the Brand team. We had a great time doing the vision boards and bringing their dreams for the space to life. We used the 1960s Mexican Riviera as our muse. We wanted to use colors like rust, chocolate browns and sunny yellows of that time period to compliment the Isla Collection.
“Who, what or where functions as a source of your inspiration? ”
Vintage fashion such as YSL, Celine and Gucci are often foundational influences in our designs.
“What are the key pieces you always believe in investing in when decorating a space and crucial design advice for those styling their own homes or spaces? ”
Everyone should invest in the foundational pieces such as a sofa, rugs and lighting. My advice would be to spend time getting to know your taste and avoid trends. Invest in a beautiful piece of art and it can dramatically change your space.
“What does the next five years look like to you? ”
Night Palm is growing quickly with plans of opening multiple offices. A dream of ours would be to have a Europe-based studio. There are also a lot of exciting collaborations on the horizon.
“When you’re not working, you love to: ”
I love to travel, be close to nature, write poetry, and listen to my records.
