The Best Italian Cinema

As an homage to our Spring 2026 collection, Venezia, inspired by the rich culture and history of Venice – we have curated our favourite Italian-inspired films through the years. Inspiring a touch of La Dolce Vita.

The Talented Mr Ripley (1999)

Often more widely recognised for its 1950s-inspired vacation wardrobes, as seen on Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Matt Damon, this drama follows a con artist through Italy – from Ischia and Procida to Rome and Venice – as he plans to assume the identity of a wealthy socialite.

Roman Holiday (1953)

One of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck's most beloved films, this romance tells the story of a princess who escapes from her gruelling European tour for an adventure through Rome with an American journalist.

The Italian Job (1969)

While you might be familiar with the 2003 remake featuring Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg, the 1969 original with Michael Caine is known for its glamorous cinematography and infamous scenes with the Mini Coopers. It tells the story of a robbery heist in Turn, Italy.

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

Set in Northern Italy during the summer of 1983, this beloved novel turned film follows 17-year-old Elio, played by Timothee Chalamet, as he develops a deep, romantic bond with his father's 24-year-old American research assistant.

La Dolce Vita (1960)

A somewhat controversial film in its time, this film highlighted the beauty and glamour of Italian culture in a post-war context and is credited with popularising the phrase 'la dolce vita.' It tells the story of a gossip columnist who hopes to turn himself into a serious writer but is quickly caught up in the drama of Italian socialites in Rome.

The Tourist (2010)

While a romantic thriller with Angeline Jolie that follows twists and turns of international agents and crime, Venice is the true protagonist of this film. The film is captured throughout the city, from the canals to the Hotel Danieli.

Summertime (1955)

Perhaps an original 'Eat Pray Love,' this romantic drama stars Katharine Hepburn as she travels to Venice for a dream vacation. Once she meets and falls in love with a local shopkeeper, she is faced with a series of difficult moral decisions.

A Room With A View (1985)

The first half of this time is set against the backdrop of Florence in the early 1900s as it follows Helena Bonham Carter's character fall in love with a free-spirited young man. Once she returns to the Edwardian society of England, she must decide where her heart truly lies.

Under The Tuscan Sun (2003)

After learning of her husband's infidelity, an American travel writer relocates to Italy where she purchases a rustic Tuscan villa with the hopes of starting a new life.
