In Conversation with Monikh

Step behind the scenes of the MONIKH x FAITHFULL Vol II as stylist Monikh Dale shares the inspiration behind the design and the intention for each piece, and how they transition seamlessly from the holiday to everyday.

What was important to you when designing this collection?

“The reason why I designed this collection is because I was done with having a wardrobe for the holiday and a wardrobe for life. I wanted to create something that just blended and I could do it for both. So this wardrobe, you’re meant to be able to wear it to the beach and it will last you the entire holiday. You can mix and match them, and then you can take it home and wear it in the city. That’s really what I wanted for this whole collection.”

What were the key pieces you felt were missing from your wardrobe when designing the collection?

I wanted pieces that I’ve always needed to have for those quick moments in the morning when I don’t have the luxury of time. I also wanted to create a few things that I felt like I hadn’t seen that much of – like The Knee Skirt. It’s that high-waisted, slightly awkward, just below the knee length, which I feel like is so cool. Even with a tank top like this and a really thin-like thong heel, it’s minimal but still quite fresh. It reminds me of Carrie [Bradshaw] on holiday.

What details or elements were especially important to you when it came to fit, fabrication and styling?

“When we were bringing this to life, the quality was so important. I wanted those pieces that were going to be worthy of being in your wardrobe. You also don’t want the styles to be trend-driven. You want it to be something that you can build around and you can make it feel like you. These pieces are timeless, minimal and beautifully cut and really good quality fabrics. You want these pieces to last forever and create memories.

Something like The Linen Pant, they are a really good quality, heavy weight linen that holds its shape and I know that I’ll have these forever.”

How would you describe your personal style?

“I feel like my style is constantly evolving with me at what stage of life I’m at. But at my core, I’m a true minimalist.”

What makes an outfit feel effortless to you?

“A true effortless outfit is something that’s comfortable and wearable and real. And because I’m then comfortable in it, I’m confident. So I hope that this capsule collection gives confidence to people. I hope they can move around and get on with their errands and daily lifestyle and just feel really effortless and easy in it all.”

What makes a piece feel like a wardrobe staple or foundation piece for you?

“A wardrobe staple is something that you go to all the time. It;s something that you want to wake up wanting to wear every morning. Things that you don’t have to think about. I wanted to create those elevated foundational pieces that still made you feel confident and excited to throw on but also mixed and matched with everything here and other pieces in your wardrobe.

I think those pieces work for both holiday and everyday life. I think something like The Pocket Skirt, it is light and free and just easy that I can wear now with The Knit Tank and then layer with The Fisherman Knit Jumper. I want to have a capsule wardrobe like this with twelve pieces but I can make eighteen outfits out of them. I need to make more out of them than just the individual look.”

If you’re packing for a trip, what are the key pieces, fabrics and colours you always reach for?

“From this capsule collection, I think you want to start with The Cotton Pant. It’s a really beautiful pant that we spent ages getting the fit right. They are such a good staple and foundation piece that you can throw on and mix with any of the tops, depending on the event, occasion or weather.

For colours, I tend to lean to those earthy tones. I want it to all feel quite natural, free and easy. The colour palette is normally blended. I love pairing the Teal and Prune together as I think it looks so fresh. It still has the earthy tone but brings in a peppermint touch.”
